I'm a Columbus, Ohio native, and painting has been my passion ever since I could hold a brush. For over 30 years, I dedicated my career to working in the developmental disability field, but art was always quietly waiting for me. Now, after decades of service, I've been able to return to the thing that truly lights me up-painting. It feels like I'm rediscovering a part of myself that's been patiently waiting to be expressed all these years.
In 2019, I started painting classes at the Columbus Cultural Arts Center, where I sharpened my skills and uncovered my true artistic voice.
My artistic vision is to create paintings that offer a sense of peace and tranquility, inviting viewers to pause, breathe, and be captivated by moments of calm. Through each piece, I aim to transport people into a world of beauty and stillness, where they can reconnect with themselves and find inspiration and encouragement in the simple, mesmerizing detail of life.
I create art for those seeking peace, capturing the beauty of the world to inspire moments of pause and quiet reflection.
I learned the art of pausing from my father, a self-taught naturalist by passion. Together, we would walk through the woods, stopping every few feet to observe nature, noticing the uniqueness of each plant, tree, and bird. He taught me to truly see—to recognize the significance of an eye ring on a small bird or the arrangement of leaves on a stem. These details were essential for making a precise observation.
My grandfather, a skilled ceramist and sculptor, also shaped my perspective. I loved spending time in his basement studio, observing how he carefully removed seams from molds and how his attention to detail made his work beautiful. Watching him prepare locally sourced, iron-rich clay and mix glazes from boxes of minerals and chemicals taught me that the process itself is crucial.
For me, painting is a form of meditation, a way to pause and immerse myself in the process. Acrylics suit me because they allow me to be both methodical and spontaneous—I can let things happen organically while maintaining control with fine lines. Painting many thin layers to build shapes, tones, and values, I work quickly to match my naturally impatient temperament. Painting with acrylics enables me to keep moving while also offering a reprieve from the frenetic world.
Through my art, I aim to guide you to relax your mind and appreciate the everyday world—reflections, refractions, shadows, and light. My work seeks to offer moments of peace, inviting you to explore and find beauty in small, quiet moments. Using my own photographs as inspiration, I transform scenes that resonate with me into larger-than life paintings, creating immersive worlds. And my prints? They’re just as mesmerizing and transportive. I hope you linger and enjoy a moment of pause as you enter these worlds in our online art shop.
